Cape of Thirty Years Misoji Misaki

Greetings all,

Here is a translation of an Enka song written for the 2007 hit anime Lucky Star Misoji Misaki (三十路岬). As a huge fan of Enka and Lucky Star, I was really glad that I was able to buy this CD dirt cheap at a second hand store in Nagano.

Despite the lyrics being more or less just a hodgepodge of common Enka motifs all thrown together into one song, its stand alone value as a piece of music is (at least to me) on equal footing with any of the other Enka songs I truly enjoy. While I suppose you could technically consider this a “single”, it contains another traditional Japanese sounding song 夢結び雨 and karaoke back tracking for both of them.

I softly wispered to the seagulls
“Do you mind if a speak alone here?”
Carried on the frigid ocean winds of the north,
a woman’s true feelings of love were blown away
Not even my lamentations of lost forlorn love
Can reach him so far away.
I stood alone draped in tears, at the cape of 30 years

Despite my regret for the night we loved,
I still weep alone, in our room for two.

Men are nothing but thoughtless promises.
Its all over now, with none at all fulfilled.

Perhaps I will be able to see you again,
If I throw myself into the spray of waves below.
sacrificing my soul of 30 years to the yearning
Even knowing of your new love,
My sin of loving you does not disappear.

He left me saying one cannot pick who they love.
A phrase I’m sure he’s often uttered before.
Not even my lamentations of lost forlorn love
Can reach him so far away.
I stood alone draped in tears, at the cape of 30 years
